Sen Arevshatyan, former director of Matenadaran, dies
Famous philosopher, historian, former director of the Matenadaran Institute of Ancient Manuscripts Sen Arevshatyan died today aged 86, Aysor.am was informed by Matenadaran.
Sen Arevshatyan was born in 1928 in Yerevan. In 1951 he graduated from Yerevan State University. He earned his doctorate in 1972 and became an academician in 1996.
Sen Arevshatyan made a significant contribution to the development of Armenian studies. He authored works on ancient and medieval history of philosophy and was considered one of the most famous Armenian scholars in this field. Arevshatyan headed the Matenadaran for 25 years, during which the institute’s repository was replenished with 1,500 ancient manuscrits.
