“How do you think it feels to be in prison? Levon Hayrapetyan’s health sharply deteriorated because of those conditions,” Safaryan said.
In his words, a week ago the businessman’s lawyers filed a petition for the formation of a commission that would examine Hayrapetyan’s health condition so that his measure of restrain could be commuted to house arrest. The answer to the petition will be given within two weeks.
Russian Federal Security Service detained Levon Hayrapetyan, 65, on July 15 after he his plane from Nice landed at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport (the businessman lives mostly in Monaco). Investigators suspect Hayrapetyan of being involved in the 2009 sale of Bashneft by Ural Rakhimov to Sistema Company. According to Russian media, evidence given by ex-senator Igor Izmestyev currently serving a life term was a ground for Hayrapetyan’s detention. Earlier the court decided to seize his shares in Bashneft Company that are worth over 300 million rubles. On July 17 Basmanny court of Moscow sanctioned Levon Hayrapetyan’s arrest until September 15. Hayrapetyan denies all the charges against him.
