Suspect detained in Gyumri pedagogical university rector’s brother murder

Police detained a suspect in the murder of Harutyun Grigoryan, the brother of Gyumri Pedagogical University rector Vardevan Grigoryan. The head of the criminal investigation unit of Shirak regional military police Arman Katunyan has been detained, Aysor.am learned from the Armenian police press service.

Prior to that, Arman Katunyan was in neighboring Georgia and he surrendered to the police after crossing the Armenian-Georgian border on July 27.

Harutyun Grigoryan’s body was discovered on July 25 on a farm of Getk rural community in Shirak province. Traces of violence, including gunshot wounds, were found on his body. Two 9mm bullets and five bullet casings were found at the scene of the crime. A criminal case was opened under the Criminal Code’s Article 104 (murder) and Article 235 part 1 (illegal purchase, sale, possession, transportation and carrying of firearms and ammunition).

According to a version of the investigation, the murder was committed out of jealousy as H. Grigoryan had a love affair with Katunyan’s wife.
