Hrachia Harutyunyan trial draws to a close
Hrachia Harutyunyan, an Armenian truck driver who is accused of a causing a road accident near Moscow last year that killed 18 people, will make his last plea in Moscow’s Troitsky court today.
According to Echo of Moscow radio station, following his speech the judges will hold a consultation to pass a sentence that may be announced today. The prosecutor earlier requested seven years in prison for Harutyunyan.
Hrachia Harutyunyan has been in police custody since July 2013. He pleaded guilty to causing the crash that occurred on July 13 of last year in the so-called new Moscow. Harutyunyan’s truck loaded with crushed stones ploughed into a passenger bus. 18 people were killed, over 60 others received injuries in the accident.
