Erdogan seeks to become totalitarian leader – expert
Unlike the local elections held in Turkey in March 2014, the presidential elections held on August 10 were comparatively fair and transparent since there have not been any clear reports of machinations and falsifications, Turkish studies expert Artak Shakaryan told reporters on Monday.
“I am sure that Erdogan really won the elections,” the expert noted.
Mr Shakaryan stressed that Erdogan seeks to become a totalitarian and authoritarian leader and he said in his winning speech that his aim is to amend the country’s Constitution so as to transform Turkey from a parliamentary to a presidential state, with the president being the most powerful body in the country.
