Manoyan: Azerbaijan unlikely to change conduct after meeting of presidents
The meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Wales with the participation of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was, to some extent, the result of the Unites States’ interest, the head of the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun Party’s Office for the Armenian Cause and Political Affairs Kiro Manoyan told journalists today.
Manoyan at the same time is not hopeful that after the meetings, Azerbaijan’s will change its conduct, due to which the Karabakh talks have been stalled.
“Azerbaijan is unlikely to change its conduct following those meetings. In all cases, the mediator states are trying to reduce the likelihood of war,” Kiro Manoyan noted.
Commenting on the adoption by the Greek parliament of the bill criminalizing the denial of the genocides of the Pontus Greeks and the Armenians, the Holocaust, and Nazism, Manoyan said it is necessary to wait and see what the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) will decide.
“The same thing as in case of Switzerland could happen. The ECHR may declare that it contradicts the principle of freedom of expression,” Manoyan explained, noting that Turkey’s opposition is also likely.
