Haykakan Zhamanak: US wants Armenia to recognize Kosovo independence
“According to reliable sources, an unexpected problem arose on the agenda of Armenian-American relations. The U.S. tries to convince Armenia to recognize Kosovo’s independence,” ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily says.
“If it happens, Armenia will become the first non-Baltic post-Soviet republic to recognize Kosovo’s independence. According to our information, Armenia is interested in this issue. Armenian diplomats told Americans that if Kosovo recognizes Karabakh’s independence, then Armenia will recognize Kosovo’s independence. Kosovo is unlikely to recognize the independence of Karabakh because Kosovo is a Muslim state. It is a delicate subject in Armenian-Russian relations. Russia does not recognize Kosovo’s independence, but at one time it was trying to convince Armenia to recognize independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” the paper writes.
