Armenian Prosecutor General receives CE Commissioner for Human Rights
Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan received the delegation led by the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks, the Office of Prosecutor General said.
Issues of human rights protection in Armenia were discussed during the meeting, in which Deputy Prosecutor General E. Babayan and Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe A. Papikyan also participated.
The sides discussed the case of the March 1, 2008 events as well as legal problems related to the protection of rights of minors and women in Armenia. At the request of N. Muiznieks, the prosecutor general spoke about issues concerning adoption of the new Criminal Procedure Code.
The interlocutors discussed the participation of international experts in the preliminary investigation into the criminal case opened under several articles of the Criminal Code (including Article 389) in connection with incidents on the state border of Armenia, and the possibility of involving the Commissioner’s Office in investigation of such incidents.
Gevorg Kostanyan appreciated highly cooperation with the CE Commissioner for Human Rights.
