Economist: Membership of EEU is obvious deadlock for Armenia
In the past 20 years, numerous integration projects were initiated and implemented, with varying degrees of efficiency, mostly with low efficiency, the economist Ashot Yeghiazaruyan told reporters today.
“There have been about a dozen such integration projects, and it was not always that Russia was the main player, although it has never concealed its ambitions concerning the region. It should be noted that this project will suffer the same fate as the others,” the economist said.
In his words, what happened yesterday was - in a formal sense – the continuation of May 29.
Yeghiazarian said the signing did not happen according to Moscow’s scenario, but it took place at the last moment, with a delay, and there was no solemn expression on the participants’ faces.
He stressed that in fact, Armenia has deepened the isolation in which it found itself after the September 3 decision of last year. For Armenia, there is no alternative anymore, Yeghiazaryan added.
“Economists know perfectly well that it is an obvious deadlock for Armenia. An economic decline was recorded in Armenia in the past year. More importantly, Armenia lost the opportunity of alternative contacts and limited itself only to Eurasian Economic Union member states. So one can say that development without an alternative is impossible,” A. Yeghiazaryan said.
