Armenian PM meets IMF Managing Director in US
On the last day of his working visit to the United States, Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan met with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde, according to the press office of the government.
The prime minister highly appreciated cooperation with the IMF on economic development and institutional reforms in Armenia.
“The IMF is our important partner in macroeconomic issues. Macroeconomic stability has been one of Armenia’s significant achievements since its independence and the IMF has for years contributed to it,” Hovik Abrahamyan stated.
He said the three-year program approved by IMF Board in early 2014 outlines a new development stage for Armenia’s economy and will allow Armenia to come close to the camp of countries with developing economies. In his words, the government is determined to continue reforms in various spheres so as to promote economic development and enhance the country’s competitiveness.
Welcoming Prime Minister Abrahamyan and stressing the importance of further cooperation with Armenia, Christine Lagarde said that Armenia is an equal member of the IMF. She considered Armenia a reliable partner, adding that the IMF will continue cooperating with Armenia and assisting with structural reforms aimed at its economic development.
The sides then discussed a number of issues related to further cooperation.
