Suspicious substance reported at Canadian Consulate in Istanbul
Turkish authorities are investigating a suspicious substance at the Canadian Consulate in Istanbul, and security incidents also are being investigated at two other foreign consulates in Turkey's largest city, the country's emergency management agency said Friday, according to CNN.
Authorities are investigating incidents at the German and Belgian consulates in Istanbul, as well as the suspicious substance at the Canadian facility, Turkey's emergency management agency said, without specifying what is happening at the first two locations.
Canadian officials reported receiving a letter containing an unidentified yellow substance Friday, Turkey's semiofficial Anadolu news agency reported.
One person was directly exposed to the substance, and five people may have been indirectly exposed, but no one was exhibiting alarming reactions, an emergency management agency representative said.
The Belgian Consulate, when CNN asked about the security incident there, said only that police are investigating a substance found in an envelope that had been sent there.
