Haykakan Zhamanak: Gas prices may go up in Armenia
Haykakan Zhamanak’ says that sources in Armenian Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources speak about the possible increase in prices of Russian natural gas supplied to Armenia. Under the agreement signed with Gazprom Company last year, the price of gas supplied to Armenia shall be the same for five years, but there is a reservation, by which that price is directly linked to domestic prices in Russia.
“If domestic prices go up in Russia, then the tariff of gas supplied to Armenia will also increase. The ministry expects that due to the sharp drop in oil prices, the Russian authorities will try to partially compensate for losses of the oil-and-gas complex by raising domestic gas prices. It is expected that the gas tariffs may change in the spring of next year,” the paper notes.
