168 Hours: German ambassador in favor of borders’ opening and joint work
“I may not comment on Georgia’s policy as the opening of a country’s border could damage another country’s interests. Yet I believe that the more routes are open, the better,” German Ambassador to Armenia Reiner Morrel told ‘168’ paper when commenting on a statement by ex-president of Georgia.
Mikhail Saakashvili said earlier that re-launching the Abkhazian railway contradicts the interests of Georgia’s ally – Azerbaijan and may result in that country’s blockade.
According to the German ambassador, the railway’s opening is important for Armenia in terms of the absence of common borders with countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.
“Opening the railway will facilitate passenger and cargo transportation. I am in favor of borders’ opening and joint work if possible. And I understand that Georgia has problems in this situation,” R. Morrel said.
