Armenian FM thanks Bolivia for Armenian Genocide recognition
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan issued a statement expressing gratitude to both chambers of the Bolivian parliament, the authorities and friendly people of Bolivia for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire, according to the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry.
“By taking this step ahead of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide, Bolivia has made an important contribution to the restoration of historic justice, the struggle for recognition, condemnation and prevention of crimes against humanity, and the fight against their denial,” Edward Nalbandyan said.
The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of the Bolivian parliament adopted a resolution recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide. The relevant documents were handed over to Armenian Ambassador to Argentina Vahagn Melikyan and Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Argentina, His Eminence Archbishop Gisak Muradyan in Buenos Aires on November 30.
Acting Chairperson of the Senate Sonia Guardia Melgar and MP of the Chamber of Deputies Farides Vala Suarez de Suarez were invited to the ceremony.
Sonia Melgar said in her speech that the Bolivian people and authorities not only express their solidarity and support to Armenian people in their struggle for justice, but also condemn any manifestation of denial of the Armenian Genocide committed in 1915 in the Ottoman Empire.
On behalf of the Armenian authorities, Vahagn Melikyan expressed his profound gratitude to the people and authorities of Bolivia. In his words, ahead of the Armenian Genocide centennial the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Bolivia opens a new page in the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and proves once again that the policy of denial cannot counter the aspiration to establish justice and truth.
