Ashotyan: Chess will be taught in Armenian schools in 2015 too
A pilot program of teaching national songs and dances began in Armenian schools in 2014 with the aim of promoting the development of Armenian culture and raising the younger generation in the national spirit, Armenian Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan said during this year’s final press conference today.
According to the minister, the program was introduced in several schools, but the list of schools will grow next year. Chess is also a non-compulsory subject in Armenian schools where it is taught with the support of Education and Science Ministry. “Chess is an optional subject in schools,” A. Ashotyan noted.
“Chess will be taught in 2015 too, given the wide response and interest it has drawn,” the education minister said.
He said he plans to discuss the 2015 programs at a press conference in January.
