Tatul Manaseryan: Dollar appreciation, not dram depreciation, took place

“Talks with the European Union are efficient. We are discussing issues related to a deep and comprehensive free trade area and the economy, and we try to retain the earlier agreements as much as possible”, Armenian First Deputy Minister of economy Garegin Melkonyan said at a press conference today.

According to him, only those provisions that contradict Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will be changed.

Another participant of the press conference, Chairman of the Union of Employers of Armenia Gagik Makaryan said when commenting on the dram-dollar rate fluctuations that during the dollar appreciation, the relevant institutions failed to react correctly and rapidly which, in his words, is related to a low level of economic thinking. 

What is going on in the Armenian economy should be viewed in the context of processes in the world economy, the head of Alternative analytical center Tatul Manaseryan said.

“The appreciation of the dollar, rather than the depreciation of the Armenian dram, took place in December,’ he stressed.
