Man detained during attempt to cross illegally Armenia-Turkey border
Employees of the Russian Federal Security Service’s (FSB) Frontier Department in Armenia detained a man who tried to cross illegally the Armenian-Turkish border.
According to the press service of the FSB Frontier Department in Armenia, the incident took place on December 22 near the settlement of Akhurik.
In the evening the frontier post received an alarm set by technical means of border protection. On arrival at the scene, frontier guards found the traces of the violator who had tried to mislead frontier guards by moving backwards as he attempted to cross the border zone. Yet his tricks did not deceive servicemen of the Gyumri frontier detachment. The man was detained 150 meters from the state border of Armenia.
No ID documents were found during a search.
The detained man said that he was on a visit to his relatives and after a domestic argument he decided to go to Turkey in protest. During the interrogation he was in an inadequate state and behaved defiantly, even though he was not drunk. Shortly afterwards the man’s relatives brought his documents and confirmed his identity.
