EU allocates 77.5 million euros to Armenia
The European Union allocated 77.5 million euros for Armenia to continue reforms with the assistance of the EU. The ceremony of launching 8 agreements signed a month ago took place in the Armenian government today.
According to the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Traian Hristea, Armenia is the second largest recipient of EU funds per capita under the Eastern Partnership Program. Two agreements, under which 25 million euros will be provided for agriculture and rural communities’ development, are aimed at assisting the republic’s economic development and poverty reduction. 10 million euros will be allocated under territorial development program to implement projects on cooperation of the state and the private sector, employment, and workforce training to promote economic development of Armenian provinces.
The EU pays special attention to anti-corruption reforms and civil service reforms, for which 21 million euros was allocated, T. Hristea said.
4 million euros will be provided for border management and migration.
Yet another agreement of 6 million euros is aimed at improving skills of Armenian civil servants and facilitating the country’s access to EU-financed programs.
Two infrastructure programs are related to reconstruction of the Yerevan metro (5 million euros) and re-equipment of the water supply system of the city (5.5 million euros). 1 million euros will be allocated to improve radioactive waste management.
Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said that Armenia attaches great importance to preservation of the current level of relations with the EU and is prepared to continue cooperation in all fields and directions of mutual interest. In his words, the EU is one of the key partners of Armenia whose relations with European structures and EU countries continue to develop.
