Kostanyan asks Russian prosecutor to transfer Permyakov case to Armenia
Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan filed an application to Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chayka, asking him to transfer the Avetisyan family murder case to Armenian law enforcement agencies, according to the press service of Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office.
G. Kostanyan filed the application pursuant to Article 6 of the agreement between the two countries on mutual legal assistance in issues related to the Russian military base in Armenia.
Six members of the Avetisyan family, including a two-year-old girl, were killed in Gyumri on January 12, 2015. The only survivor of the attack – a six-month-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition with stab wounds. He died on January 19, despite all efforts to save him. Russian soldier Valery Permyakov is suspected of committing that crime.
On the night of January 13, Russian border guards detained the main suspect – conscript of the Russian 102nd military base Valery Permyakov during an attempt to cross the Armenian-Turkish border. He was questioned and confessed to the crime. He is now held in custody. Permyakov is charged with murder and desertion with a service gun.
Armenia’s Investigative Committee charged Permyakov under Article 104 part 2 point 1 of the Criminal Code (premeditated murder of two or more people). He pleaded guilty to the charge.
