S. Ohanyan: 30 officials to be dismissed in military student murder case
During the sitting of Armenia’s National Assembly today the deputy of Orinats Yerkir (OEK) faction Heghine Bisharyan asked Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan to inform MPs about the situation in Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute, in particular the details of the criminal case of military student Haykaz Berseghyan’s murder.
Responding to the deputy’s question, S. Ohanyan said that in addition to a criminal case, an internal investigation was also launched.
“It is to be regretted that as a result of the January 29 incident, our army lost yet another soldier. On my instructions, an internal investigation was conducted. A number of omissions by units’ commanders were found in the Military Institute,” the minister said adding:
“During the investigation into the criminal case, it was found that the incident happened because of acts of harassment. The military students were under the influence of alcohol”. According to S. Ohanyan, a number of people accused in the criminal case have been arrested, while the commanders responsible for the incidents were dismissed.
“The director of Military Institute was relieved of his position. Another 30 officials will be dismissed as well. They will be either demoted or transferred to troops,” Ohanyan explained.
