Armenian man to stand trial in Russia for hoax call about Kremlin bomb
The prosecutor’s office sent a criminal case against Armenian citizen Ashot Arakelyan to a magistrate’s court in Sochi, Russia. During his stay in Russia, Arakelyan made a hoax call, informing the police about a plan to explode a bomb in the Kremlin, RIA Novosti news agency reported citing the prosecutor’s office of Krasnodar region.
The incident, which led to 37-year-old Ashot Arakelyan’s detention, happened on January 15.
“According to prosecutors’ version, in order to attract attention, the Armenian citizen illegally residing in Russia called the police unit of Sochi and made a false report about an impending explosion in the Kremlin,” a statement said.
Arakelyan faces up to 3 years in prison, under the Criminal Code’s article on a false report about a terrorist act.
