Ex-deputy of Armenian parliament Hakob Hakobyan to remain in custody
Armenia’s Criminal Court of Appeals rejected today the appeal filed by the lawyer of ex-deputy of the Armenian parliament Hakob Hakobyan. The lawyer asked to change the measure of restraint – arrest.
The court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts earlier granted the application of an investigator of the Tax Service for imprisoning Hakob Hakobyan (nicknamed Choyt) for two months. Hakobyan is currently kept in ‘Nubarashen’ penal institution.
As was reported, ex-MP Hakob Hakobyan was detained on February 2 as part of the investigation of a criminal case by Investigative Department of Armenian Finance Ministry. Hakobyan is suspected of illegal entrepreneurship coupled with infliction of damage in large amounts to organizations or to the state, and with tax evasion. An investigation is underway.
H. Hakobyan’s lawyer Karen Sardaryan told Aysor.am that a seven-count charge was brought against Hakobyan who expressed readiness to compensate damage done to the state in relation to five counts.
