Man takes policeman hostage, demands brother’s release

Armenian Investigative Committee’s Aragatsotn regional department completed the preliminary investigation into the case  in connection with stealing a police sergeant’s gun and taking him hostage, Investigative Committee said.

On October 22, 2014, a local citizen, S.  Ispiryan entered the sentry post near Aparan-Yerevan water pipeline.

According to investigators,  Ispiryan seized a Makarov pistol of the sergeant on duty, tied his hands, and took him hostage. Ispiryan demanded the release of his brother who was taken into custody for injuring a  person.

On seeing that he was being surrounded by police during the negotiations, the man fled, leaving the sergeant in the sentry post.  A few hours later he surrendered the pistol.

S. Ispiryan has been charged under Articles 238 and 218 of the Criminal Code. The case was sent to court.
