Lawyer: Prosecutor’s Office requested transfer of criminal case, not Permaykov
The statement released by Prosecutor’s Office contains only a demand for transfer of the criminal case against Russian soldier Valery Permyakov to Armenian jurisdiction. Lawyer Yerem Sargsyan - who represents the interests of the legal successors of the murdered Avetisyan family - said at a press conference today. In his words, the statement says nothing about the handover of Permyakov to Armenian law enforcement bodies.
As was reported, yesterday the Office of Armenian Prosecutor General issued a statement concerning the criminal case of the Avetisyans killed in Gyumri in January. The statement said that Armenian prosecutor general sent an application to Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chayka on February 3, 2015. “The application of the Office of Armenian Prosecutor General about the transfer of the criminal case of the Avetisyan family murder in Gyumri on January 12 to Armenian law enforcers’ jurisdiction is now being considered by the Office of Russian Prosecutor General”, the statement read. The Office of Armenian Prosecutor also released a respective photo.
When asked to which side – Armenian or Russian – the lawyer applies when he needs information, Y. Sargsyan replied: “We have long discussed that issue with legal successors and came to the conclusion that now we should not apply to the Russian side in order to involve a legal successor – roughly speaking, it will turn out in this case that we legalize the Russian side’s actions, while we demand that they hand over Permyakov to the Armenian side”.
