Three detained over suicide of conscript
Three people have been detained during the investigation of conscript Albert Safaryan’s death case by the Main Military Investigative Department of Armenia’s Investigative Committee. A sergeant of the company, warrant officer Araik Sukiasyan, and two conscripts – Private Gevorg Ghazaryan and Junior Sergeant Mihran Hovakimyan were detained, according to the press service of Investigative Committee.
The conscripts are suspected of a crime under Articles 359 parts 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code (a violation by a group of people of interaction regulations among servicemen, which was reflected in humiliation of a person, or persecution, along with violence against him). The sergeant of the company is suspected of the crime under Article 358 part 2 (battery or other violence against a subordinate in connection with the performance of military duty).
As was reported, around 8:40 pm on February 27 conscript Albert Safaryan shot himself in the jaw from his service gun. The incident occurred on a frontline position of a military unit located in the northern direction of Defense Army of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
A criminal case was opened under Article 110 part 1 (incitement to suicide) of the Criminal Code.
