Valery Permyakov to undergo mental evaluation
Russian conscript Valery Permyakov who is charged with killing an Armenian family in the city of Gyumri will undergo a mental evaluation, Interfax news agency was informed by a source familiar with the situation.
“The evaluation will be conducted in a hospital at the Russian 102nd military base in Armenia and be completed in about two weeks,” Interfax’s source said, noting that the experts will assess the serviceman’s mental health and make a diagnosis. “All the talk that Permaykov is already found to be suffering from mental abnormality is based on rumors. No test results have been received so far,” the source said.
Speaking about the investigation of that controversial case, the news agency’s interlocutor noted that ‘the investigation is being conducted by law enforcement bodies of the two countries closely cooperating with each other”. He refuted the conjectures of some media outlets that the Russian side is allegedly unwilling to promptly investigate the Permyakov case and bring him to trial. “There have been no bureaucratic delays in the case. All investigative actions are done according to the schedule,” the source stressed.
