Arsenal to move for Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the summer
Premier League outfit Arsenal are weighing up an offer for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the summer, report the Metro.
The Armenia international signed for the Bundesliga outfit from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013 and his performances this season have piqued the interest of a number of clubs across the continent, including Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
However, although the midfielder’s agent has suggested the midfielder is happy to remain at Signal Iduna Park, his commitment to the cause of Jurgen Klopp’s side could soon be tested.
Although Dortmund have eased their relegation fears in recent weeks, courtesy of a six-game unbeaten run, they may yet fail to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
If a club set to be involved in the world’s most prestigious club competition comes calling, the attacking midfielder would be likely to have to consider hos options.
Meanwhile, the north Londoners recently tightened their grip on third place in the Premier League following a commanding victory over West Ham United and are on course to claim a seat at Europe’s top table under the guidance of Arsene Wenger.
The Frenchman has an abundance of midfield talent at his disposal but is believed to have sent scouts to watch Mkhitaryan and could be tempted to table an offer for the midfielder, who is valued in the region of £17 million.
However, it remains to be seen whether he could force his way into the Gunners’ first team fold on a regular basis.
Even if Wenger loses the services of one his midfielders to a rival this summer, Mkhitaryan would struggle to command more than a place on the subsittures bench at the Emirates Stadium.
