Syrian parliament speaker calls on int’l community to condemn Armenian Genocide
Speaker of the People’s Assembly of Syria, Dr. Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, met with Armenian ambassador to Syria Arshak Poladyan, who conveyed a letter of gratitude from Galust Sahakyan, the chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia.
The letter thanks for holding a special session at the Syrian People’s Assembly dedicated to the Armenian Genocide centennial, condemning this grave crime and expressing support to the Armenian people.
The Armenian speaker also thanked the Syrian people, who gave shelter to the Armenian Genocide survivors. “The humane attitude of the Syrian nation and its leaders is always remembered and appreciated by the Armenian people,” Sahakyan wrote.
At the meeting, al-Laham once again referred to the Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire against Armenians and called on the international community to condemn this heinous crime against humanity.
Ambassador Poladyan, in turn, briefed the Syrian Parliament Speaker on the events dedicated to the Genocide centennial.
Other regional issues were also discussed.
