Karabakh status quo unacceptable to France – envoy. Armenpress
France’s ambassador to Armenia has expressed his country’s concerns over the continuing status quo in the conflict zone around Nagorno-Karabakh.
In an interview with the state news agency Armenpress, Jean-Francois Charpentier said that his country spares no effort to prevent a deterioration of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan following Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev’s meeting in Paris.
“As most of the observers, I am also quite concerned over the escalation of the tension of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the line of contact. France does not spare efforts so that the situation does not worsen after the meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev, in Paris and the efforts, made by the French cochair of the OSCE Minsk Group.
"The President of France Francois Hollande demonstrates a greater involvement in the peace process of this conflict. We are certain that the negotiated solution and the global agreement, based on the three Madrid Principles, should continue being predictable. Status quo is unacceptable,” the diplomat said.
