Armenia’s premier hosts PACE president
Armenia’s Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan hosted on Tuesday President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur, who is on an official visit to Armenia.
Armenia’s premier pointed out Armenia’s effective cooperation with PACE. He highlighted Ms Brasseur’s visit to Armenia, noting it will give new impetus to bilateral cooperation and further development.
Ms Brasseur stressed the Armenian delegation’s active involvement in PACE’s activities, which contributes to the development of parliamentary diplomacy.
The sides also discussed regional problems.
Speaking of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenia’s premier presented the Armenian side’s position: the problem must be peacefully resolved within the OSCE Minsk Group.
Azerbaijan continues ceasefire violations, which results in higher tensions on the Line of Contact.
Ms Brasseur considers unacceptable escalation of tension in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. She noted that PACE sees the only way of resolving the conflict, namely, a dialogue between the conflicting parties.
The sides also discussed steps to establish democratic institutions, human rights protection and corruption control. Armenia’s government will continue consistent steps in the areas in question, the premier said.
The sides discussed other issues of mutual interest.
