Armenian president meets with CE Sec Gen

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, on the sidelines of the International Social and Political Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide, Mr Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Armenia’s leader thanked Mr Jagland for receiving an invitation to participate in the forum. President Serzh Sargsyan highly appreciates Mr Thorbjørn Jagland’s contribution to the forum, which confirms the CE’s role in the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Armenia’s leader assured Mr Jagland of Armenia’s willingness to contribute to the CE reforms launched on Mr Jagland’s initiative.

The sides discussed the Armenian Genocide centennial and its symbol and events, including the International Social and Political Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide.

Mr Sargsyan and Mr Jagland also discussed international problems, Armenia-Turkey relations, regional challenges, and the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. Mr Jagland stressed that the CE is supporting the OSCE Minsk Group in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and highlights a dialogue between the conflicting parties.

Mr Jagland thanked President Serzh Sargsyan for an invitation to the International Social and Political Global Forum against the Crime of Genocide. He said that it was a great honor for him to participate and deliver a speech at the forum.
