The sale of the Meghri-Kajaran gas pipeline took place ten years ago. Ministry of Energy
Regardless of who owns Armenia’s certain energy structures and which state is represented, their activities are regulated by Armenia’s law on energy, Armenia’s Ministry of Energy told in its written reply to Aysor.am.
“Any claims that the company that will purchase the Meghri-Kajaran gas pipeline and carry out licensed activities could act in an arbitrary way are groundless as this is regulated by Points 1 and 2of Article 53 of the Law on Energy,” the reply reads.
The information of the sale on a 40-km-long Meghri-Kajaran section of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline to the Gazprom Armenia company caused various comments.
One of them is that Armenia will lose its energy independence.
“The sale of the Meghri-Kajaran gas pipeline took place ten years ago, but has only now become s subject of public debates.”
Armenia’s government and the Gazprom Armenia company struck the deal involving the Meghri-Kajaran gas pipeline in 2007, with a US $30m payment made.
