Nagorno-Karabakh parliament slams PACE resolution on Azerbaijan
The National Assembly of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has issued a statement condemning the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly’s recent resolution on Azerbaijan.
The political factions represented in the legislative have voiced their criticism over the wording of the provisions regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting that the document was initially intended to address the activities of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan.
“In the draft resolution concerning Azerbaijan, the co-rapporteurs, Pedro Agramunt and Tadeusz Iwinski, not only fail to address the blatant regress in democracy and human rights in Azerbaijan, but also - in its very first paragraph - talk about the Azerbaijani – Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, using wordings absolutely unrelated to reality and repeating only the well-known theses of the Azerbaijani propaganda,” reads the statement.
The lawmakers also express their concern that the blatant misrepresentation of the conflict’s essence is treated as an attempt to justify the country’s poor human rights record.
