Norway Chess 2015: Aronian won
randmaster Levon Aronian (Armenia) defeated GM Fabiano Caruana (Italy) in Round 5 of the Norway Chess 2015 supertournament being held in Stavanger, Norway.
This was Aronian’s—who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia—first win in this supertournament.
The reining World Champion, GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway), also finally achieved a win in this event, as he beat Alexander Grischuk (Russia) and moved up from last place.
After five rounds, the leader is GM Veselin Topalov, with 4.5 points.
Aronian and Carlsen have so far tallied 2 and 1.5 points, respectively.
In Round 6 on Monday, Levon Aronian will face GM Anish Giri (Netherlands).
