Visit of the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan to Brussels
The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan was on a working visit in Brussels on June 24-25.
In the European Parliament Artak Zakaryan had meetings with Ryszard Czarnecki, Vice President of the European Parliament, Member of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, Jacek Sariusz-Wolski, Vice-Chair of the European People’s Party (EPP), the EPP Group MPs Frank Engel and Agnieszka Kozlowska-Rajewicz, Knut Fleckenstein, Vice-Chair of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and the MP Georgi Pirinski, Heidi Hautala, Vice President of the Euronest PA, Vice-Chair of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance of the European Parliament, Rolandas Paksas, Vice-Chair of the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group, MPs of the Group Fabio Masimo Castaldo and Laura Agea.
During the meetings problems regarding Armenia-EU parliamentary cooperation were discussed.
In the discussions the constructive policy being pursued by Armenia in different spheres was highly assessed. The positions and agreements fixed by Armenia in Riga Summit were emphasized.
In the course of the meetings Artak Zakaryan has noted that the Armenian Parliament highly evaluates the resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide adopted by the European Parliament on April 15, 2015, as well as the honest response of many European countries in the ceremonies of the Armenian Genocide Centennial.
The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations has also emphasized the MEPs’ frequent visits to the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh Republic and has noted that those visits give continuous impetus to the development of democracy in the Nagorno Karabakh, as well as the peaceful settlement of the conflict.
Issues concerning the NK conflict settlement and the situation existing in the NKR-Azerbaijan line of contact, growth of tension and formation of atmosphere of trust were also discussed.
During the meetings Aratk Zakaryan in the name of the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan handed the NA diplomas and letters of appreciation to a group of MEPs for the significant contribution to the development of the RA-EU parliamentary relations.
The MEPs highly assessed the necessity of advancing the active ties with the Armenian MPs and practical relations and reaffirmed their readiness in that issue.
During the meetings agreements were reached over a number of joint initiatives to be implemented in future.
