Britain’s Broady beats Marinko Matosevic
Liam Broady began the British campaign at Wimbledon with a superb five-set win on his Grand Slam singles debut, BBC Sport reported.
The 21-year-old wildcard, ranked 182nd in the world, battled back from two sets down against Australia's Marinko Matosevic to win 5-7 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-3.
Opening on court 18, he lost his serve in the first game before Matosevic, ranked 44 places higher, looked set to move comfortably into round two.
But Broady fought back to win in three hours and 15 minutes.
The British number six from Stockport celebrated wildly - jumping into the air and thumping his chest - after a Matosevic return flew wide on match point.
And the crowd packed into court 18 rose to their feet to acclaim the achievements of a man who last won on a grass court in July 2013.
Broady, who reached the boys' singles final of Junior Wimbledon in 2011, is the first Briton to reach the second round.
