Turkey facing political crisis: Turkologist
Turkey will in most likelihood hold snap parliamentary elections in November, with the current political system being in a state of crisis, an Armenian Turkologist said today.
Commenting on the post-electoral situation in Turkey, Hakob Chakryan said he finds it strange that Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu declared the plan of forming a new government only 28 days after the polls. He considered the development unprecedented, noting that the previous cabinet had already been formed a week after the elections.
“Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is going to start coalition talks with the political forces elected to parliament. Should Davutoglu form a cabinet, Erdogan will be opposed to that. What he sought for was to establish a full-fledged presidential government in Turkey; in that case, Davutoglu would lose his seat as the prime minister,” he explained.
Chakryan said he sees that Erdogan is doing his best to postpone every plan, with Davutoglu obeying to absolutely everything. He said that despite the June 7 parliamentary election (which is an accomplished fact), the political crisis in the country is more than ever obvious.
