Peculiarities of efficient operation of Armenian legal system discussed in Strasbourg
An Armenian delegation paid an official visit to Brussels and Strasbourg on July 6-8 as part of the Council of Europe program on strengthening of the application by Armenia of precedential law of the European Convention of Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
The Armenian delegation met with Belgium’s plenipotentiary representative to ECHR and his staff. Issues related to the organization of work with ECHR, the preparation and presentation of the government’s position, and the execution of decisions were discussed at the meetings, the press service of Armenian Justice Ministry said.
The delegation members included Armenian Deputy Justice Minister, Armenian Government’s Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative to ECHR Arman Tatoyan, Rector of Justice Academy Ruben Melikyan, Chief of State and Legal Department of the Armenian Government Staff Artak Asatryan, judges, and employees of Justice Ministry.
The delegation also met with representatives of the Constitutional Court of Belgium.
During the visit to Strasbourg, the delegation members attended hearings held by Grand Chamber of the ECHR. Meetings were conducted with the CE Commissioner for Human Rights, and representatives of the European Committee for Torture Prevention and the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance.
The legal position of the indicated organizations on Armenia’s legal system and the peculiarities of its efficient operation were considered at the meetings. Issues relating to execution of ECHR’s rulings were discussed as well.
Organizations of the CE appreciated cooperation with the Republic of Armenia. They expressed confidence that this work style will help make considerable progress in human rights.
