Armenia’s Government to improve conditions in penitentiary institutions – Justice Minister
Armenia’s Justice Minister Artak Zeynalyan and US Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills visited August 23 “Abovian” penitentiary institution to get familiarized with the conditions female convicts are being kept in. They also got acquainted with the results of the projects being carried out in the institution with the support of the USA, press service of the ministry reports.
The minister stressed the importance of improvement of living conditions of the prisoners and hailed the implementation of the projects by international partners and NGOs acting in the sphere.
“The conditions of Armenia’s penitentiary institutions are far from what we want them to be, but the government is determined to improve them and ensure the protection of rights of people kept there,” Zeynalyan stressed.
US Ambassador said that preservation of psychological and physical health of the convicts is very important to make their future integration into society easier and the projects implemented in the establishment are aimed at making it so.
