Rejection of other candidates for CSTO Secretary General’s office wrong decision – Alexander Lukashenko
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that they had offered other candidates for the post of the CSTO Secretary General but other members of the organization rejected all of them in favor of Yuri Khachaturov. Lukashenko stated about it in an interview with the Belarusian “Беларусь 1” channel, RIA Novosti reports.
“That time we offered other candidates but none of the member states backed us, while now all admit that Lukashenko was right,” the president of Belarus stated.
He informed that the issue was discussed on August 22 in Sochi during his meeting with Russian president.
“We have viewed this issue more deeply and discussed joint activities in the sidelines of the CSTO and the issues the organization is facing,” he stressed.
On July 26 the Special Investigation Service of Armenia forwarded charges against former president Robert Kocharyan for overthrowing the Constitutional order. CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov and former defense minister Michael Harutyunyan were also charged.
