Moscow to deny Yerevan’s request on extradition of ex defense minister Michael Harutyunyan - source
Moscow has received official request from Yerevan for extradition of ex defense minister of Armenia Michael Harutyunyan who is on CIS inter-state search over March 1, 2008 criminal case, Russian Interfax reports, citing its sources.
“Request on extradition of former defense minister of Armenia Haruyunyan has been submitted to the Russian law enforcement bodies and currently is being viewed,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
According to the initial decision the request will be denied as it has been found out that from 2002 Michael Harutyunyan is Russia’s citizen too, the source said.
“According to Russia’s Constitution citizens of Russia are not being extradited to other countries,” he stressed.
The source did not provide any other details but stressed that the request has been filed to Russia’s Interpol.
Michael Harutyunyan is accused of an attempt to overthrow constitutional order while dispersing the demonstrators in March 2008.
