PACE Monitoring Committee to discuss domestic political situation in Armenia
The PACE Political Affairs and Democracy Committee discussed at its session the domestic political situation in Armenia and the recent developments that took place in the country, Armenia’s NA vice chairman, head of the Armenian delegation to PACE Arpine Hovhanissyan wrote in her Facebook page.
“They particularly referred to the pressures against freedom of speech, unprecedented spread of hate speech, criminal cases against former authorities and their relatives, possible constitutional changes guaranteeing the rule of the prime minister, pressures on the legislative and judicial powers,” she wrote, adding that at the session she presented corresponding facts, video materials and publications.
“The content of wiretapped conversation between the National Security Service director and chief of the Special Investigation Service was discussed. As a result of the discussion a decision was made to send a letter to the Monitoring Committee proposing conduction of monitoring regarding the rule of law, independence of legislative and judicial powers as well as political persecutions in Armenia,” Hovhanissyan wrote.
