Privacy of phone conversations of each person endangered in Armenia – Gevorg Kostanyan
The Armenian parliament started discussion of issue on creating Investigative Committee at the initiative of the lawmakers. Briefing on the draft decision chairman of the State-Legal Affairs Standing Committee Gevorg Kostanyan said the wiretapping of the conversation of the director of the National Security Service and Special Investigation Service chief has raised many questions among them.
“The grounds for the creation of the committee are not the concrete circumstance or relations but it is much more global issue as it means that the privacy of phone conversations and contacts of each person is endangered,” Kostanyan said.
The MP said they must get convinced that in Armenia all the opportunities for guaranteeing privacy of phone conversations of people are ensured.
Kostanyan said the incident not only puts under doubt the legal security but the protection of human rights in general.
“We are not going to refer to the circumstances of the filed criminal cases, the content of the conversation, as it is subject for other discussion. We put it globally,” he said, adding that each such like discussion and the result of the study will raise the level of human rights protection in the country.
