USA understands Armenia’s desire to help the Armenian population in Syria – U.S. Embassy
U.S. Embassy in Armenia does not comment on Armenia’s hypothetical mission in Syria, but notes that the United States is thoroughly following the situation in Syria’s Idlib province.
To Aysor.am question whether Armenia may appear under U.S. sanctions in case of sending militaries (military doctors and sappers in particular) to Syria as part of humanitarian cooperation with Russia, the U.S Embassy representative said, “We understand the Armenian government’s desire to help the Armenian population in Syria. We, too, are concerned about the humanitarian consequences of the war in Syria and the plight of civilians. While I can’t comment on a hypothetical Armenian mission in Syria, the United States is closely monitoring the situation in Idlib province, Syria, where three million innocent civilians are being surrounded and are under threat of an imminent Assad regime attack, backed by Russia and Iran.”
