Revolution in Yerevan to end on September 23 at 8 pm – expert
My Step alliance and Prosperous Armenia Party are the favorites in the upcoming Yerevan City Council elections, political analyst, election technology specialist Armen Badalyan said speaking to Aysor.am.
“There are forces among these 12 that are fighting for the third place in the Yerevan Council to have a noticeable presence there. Some want to just present themselves, and some participate in the campaign to remind about them. Different forces solve different issues,” he said.
The expert described the ongoing campaign “poor”, stressing that some forces have bigger potential but failed to use it.
As to the absence of debates between the candidates, Badalyan said the voters would like to hear debates but in Armenia dialogue is not accepted.
Speaking about My Step alliance’s mayoral candidate, the expert said that it is obvious that he can become a mayor only thanks to premier’s authority and the voting will be not in favor of My Step candidate but the PM. “This is the reason why it is not beneficial for him to participate in debates,” he said, adding that in PAP’s case its chairman’s factor also has a significant role but not as much as in case of My Step alliance.
Badalyan also stressed that the candidates are just presenting the issues of the capital but do not present the general concept of economic management of the capital.
The expert said that on September 23 at 8 pm when the polling stations will be closed the revolution in Yerevan will end.
“Yerevan will have authorities and opposition. The next outcome of these elections will be entrance of new figures to the political field which will essentially refresh it,” he added.
