168 Zham: Pashinyan still in search for own regional security policy – expert
Political analyst Stanislav Tarasov speaking to 168 Zham said: “The situation over Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is dangerous and in case of the very first opportunity the adversary will make use of it. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan makes rather contradicting statements about the conflict regulation. In the beginning of his tenure he was stating that he is for involving Karabakh in the peace talks and that Armenia is not a negotiating side. But the further process followed with previous logic, and the same format Mnatsakanyan-Mammadyarov meeting took place. It seems like Pashinyan is still in search for own regional security policy.”
As to the CSTO and its commitments toward the member states, Tarasov told the paper that the organization has suffered a serious blow regarding the persecution of CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov and it is difficult to say whether the CSTO will jointly respond to the developments on the border if receiving request from Armenia.
German analyst Suzanne Stuart told the paper that Azerbaijan may get use of the situation created in Armenia after the revolution. She said it is a transition period for Armenia full of challenges as there are a number of foreign political issues. “Today the new authorities face numerous issues like stabilization of domestic political life. The situation over Karabakh conflict has not changed and the adversary may get use of a number of circumstances,” she said.
