EU Commissioner: Armenia may expect EU’s continuous assistance
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met in UN headquarters with the EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
The interlocutors discussed issues on further development of Armenia-EU relations, on expansion of partnership, referred to the steps in the sidelines of Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Cooperation Agreement.
Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Armenian government has chosen democratic development path and is working on ensuring rule of law, protection of human rights and establishment of favorable business environment in the country. In this regard, the PM attached significance to the EU’s comprehensive support in democratic reforms taking place in Armenia.
Speaking about the Yerevan City Council elections, Pashinyan said that more than 80% of the people voted for My Step bloc which means the people are for conduction of snap parliamentary elections.
The PM stressed that the elections were free, fair and transparent with the opponents having congratulated the winner political force, which Pashinyan said is unprecedented in Armenia.
The head of the government also noted that he is going to convene consultations with all the political forces over conduction of snap parliamentary elections.
In his turn, Johannes Hahn said the EU will continue the programs addressed toward promoting cooperation with Armenia and support the country in further strengthening of democracy, rule of law, protection of human rights, implementation of reforms in the judicial sphere.
The EU commissioner said Armenia may expect EU’s continuous assistance in the government-initiated reforms.
