Snap parliamentary elections to allow authorities become majority and deal with country’s agenda issues: Armenia’s PM
The meeting of the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and head of Republican party faction Vahram Baghdasaryan ended.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Pashinyan said they have exchanged ideas over snap parliamentary elections, agreed to continue the talks.
“Such format meetings do not result in a final decision. Our opinion is that speeded-up snap elections should be conducted, more exactly, in two-three months,” Pashinyan stressed.
He said according to some publications, the authorities will get 80% of votes and the proportion in the NA will not be preserved, which is not true.
“According to acting Constitution the 1/3 of the parliament must be opposition. If one of the political forces receives 80% of votes it does not mean that the opposition will get less seats. It will mean that the authorities will be a majority which in its turn will give opportunity for it to act completely and deal with country’s issues. As a result we will have legitimate authorities, parliamentary majority and legitimate minority,” he said.
