Armenia’s PM warns Republicans against bill on preventing conduction of snap parliamentary elections
Snap parliamentary elections are to be conducted in the first half of December, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in a live video in Facebook.
He stressed that there are counter-revolutionary forces in Armenia which came to the surface.
“Today the answer to the question whether there are counter-revolutionary forces in Armenia was given. Yesterday a bill has been put on the agenda of the National Assembly which is aimed at preventing the conduction of snap parliamentary elections and bringing the country to a political crisis,” Pashinyan stressed.
Speaking about the bill the PM said that the sense is to be able to interrupt the session because of certain reasons. “For instance people blockade the NA building and the NA chairman says the session is interrupted and may continue for instance in a week or six months. The formal author of the bill is a Republican MP, I do not want to give name,” he said.
He stressed that all those who back the bill will declare war to the people.
“The voting was scheduled for today. I had a phone conversation with Ara Babloyan and Vahram Baghdasaryan and warned them that unless the voting is at least cancelled I would be forced to address people and ask their support. I am happy that the rationality won and the bill was not put for voting. I want to urge the MPs not to escalate the domestic political situation. I expect this bill be withdrawn from the agenda,” the PM said.
He said they are waiting for the final decision from the Republican party today until late in the evening and if nevertheless the bill is put for voting he will call people take to streets.
“I will tell the exact time and place. We may possibly meet in one of the streets or squares,” the PM said, stressing though that no measures will be undertaken until the final response is given.
