Republican party MP gets convinced in PM’s honesty, ready to stand by his side

Republican party MP Gevorg Kostanyan thinks that irrespective of party belonging no one would like or would manage to create obstacles for the acting authorities.

“Just the opposite, my deepest conviction is that each rational person may assist the current authorities and today’s government because if the government fails, the country will fail, the future of our children will fail,” Gevorg Kostanyan told RFE/RL.

The MP stressed that no one thinks about narrow party or narrow personal interests, but about country’s fate.

“There is a wide consolidation over Nikol Pashinyan and it means that if we have public consolidation it means that today’s authorities and Nikol Pashinyan as a Prime Minister in particular, has public support which in its turn needs support in legal platform,” he said, adding that in such conditions nomination of other candidate in case of resignation of the PM will surge serious political and public resonance.

“If there is a candidacy that has such public consolidation we may discuss it. But I do not see such candidate, thus I think that in such conditions nomination of other candidates may be artificial and create problems,” Kostanyan said.

He said during this time he saw and got convinced that Nikol Pashinyan is honest in his goals and wishes.

“This is of great significance for me. He is honest in his political orientation which is personally acceptable for me. If I see that the honesty exists in sequence of goals, wishes and actions and is being used for the sake of the country's welfare, I will stand by his side at any moment,” the MP said.
